Forward Deployed Engineer
Own deployments from an ambiguous problem through to a reliable production system.
This role is for someone equally comfortable writing production code, walking a factory or warehouse floor, and explaining technical decisions to non-technical audiences.
Aerium's FDEs sit at the intersection of engineering, customer deployments, and product discovery.
About Aerium
Aerium is building an AI workforce for industrial manufacturers and distributors.
Industrial businesses run on fragmented data spread across ERPs, spreadsheets, inboxes, and experienced employees. Our engineers embed with customer teams to bring that context together, then train and deploy AI into their highest-value workflows.
Our systems help customers quote faster, make better purchasing decisions, act on risks before they affect their P&L, and more.
What you will do
- Identify workflows where Aerium can create meaningful operational and financial impact.
- Build data pipelines, integrations, AI agents, evaluations, and workflow applications.
- Connect fragmented data across customer systems and operational tools.
- Own deployments from discovery through launch, adoption, and expansion.
- Establish clear measures of success and track performance against them.
- Shape how Aerium delivers customer outcomes as an early member of the engineering team.
- Turn field learnings into reusable product capabilities across Aerium's core data layer.
What success looks like
Within your first six months, you will have independently:
- Owned a deployment through production.
- Built trusted customer relationships.
- Demonstrated a measurable operational result for a customer.
- Converted part of that deployment into a reusable capability that improves how Aerium serves the next customer.
About you
- You want proximity to complex and consequential work.
- You are excited to write code and work directly with the teams using it.
- You enjoy turning messy, open-ended problems into practical technical solutions.
- You listen carefully, learn quickly, and care how work gets done.
- You take ownership of outcomes and value creation.
- You are pragmatic about AI and choose the right approach for the problem.
- You are a clear communicator to technical and non-technical audiences.
What we look for
- 2–6 years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, applied AI, technical consulting, or enterprise deployment.
- Strong software fundamentals and experience building production systems.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, plus experience with APIs, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with LLMs, machine learning systems, or agentic workflows and their limitations in production.
- Comfort with imperfect data, legacy systems, incomplete requirements, and real-world constraints.
- A technical degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites across Canada and the United States (25–50% of the time).
Experience in manufacturing, distribution, supply chain, logistics, or other operationally complex industries is valuable, but not required.
Aerium is committed to building a team with varied backgrounds and perspectives. If this role excites you but your experience does not match every qualification listed, we still encourage you to apply.
